Pompi The Kingdom of Tiramisu

Pompi is an iconic patisserie in Rome for all who love a good tiramisu. At this patisserie they are specialised in making tiramisu not only on the traditional way with mascarpone and cocoa powder on top. From everywhere people are coming to taste the strawberry tiramisu or the pistachio one, just to name a couple. Now Pompi has opened at 65 Shaftesbury Avenue, Soho, London W1D 6LH, just a couple of weeks ago, and I'm hooked already, or better I'm back to my roots. With another  store in Richmond you are in for a real treat.

When I've seen the sign, while on the bus I had to get off and treat myself to something I haven't had for ages. Its ice creams and cakes are all made in London with a guarantee for freshness that with this kind of desserts is a priority.
The place is tiny, there is space for 4 tables but Pompi Tiramisu are packaged in very handy little boxes so they can be taken away and eaten at your desk or in one of those many little green spots around the area.
The shop window is just to die for, showing Pompi's specialities  in their unmistakable burgundy boxes. It is not only cakes but  hot drinks as well with its own branded coffee beans.
These are two special tiramisu, the first one with Strawberries and the second one with Pistachio. They are excellent and very delicate. I knew the strawberry tiramisu already having eaten it in Rome so I've indulged with the Pistachio one and it was a dream. Despite the generous portion they are light and you don't get tired eating them.
This plate of deliciousness is a Mont Blanc, one of my favourite cakes made of cream, meringue, chestnuts puree and marron glaces. It is part of the cake offerings at Pompi, this family business that has been going on since 1960 in the heart or Rome. On my second visit I had to have this one that took me back to my childhood. It is very difficult to find a Mont Blanc anywhere let alone London.
This is a Mimosa Cake, a delicate cake made of Chantilly cream and sponge cake. There is a version with chocolate as well. Other traditional Italian cakes are on the menu like the profiteroles and a hazelnut delight you must try.
Hot drinks are available made with a proper coffee machine in order to have the real Italian espresso in this little corner of Rome  squeezed in a busy London street.
It is possible to buy full size cakes  that will go down perfectly when invited to a dinner party or if you are hosting a dinner party. Also they cater for wedding cakes and kids. Just think at the pleasure in bringing something so scrumptious when visiting a friend.
Pompi  in 1960 was a dairy shop where they started making artisans ice cream and they brought to London this tradition with fantastic flavours, still made with the same recipes. Visit Pompi for a sweet break and it will be your regular stop when in need of a treat. www.pompi.co.uk
